The Three Versions of You
Most people think they have a confidence problem.
They don’t.
They have a timing problem.
Not with their business, with themselves.
I was working with a client who couldn’t understand why she felt so inconsistent.
Some days she was sharp. Clear. Decisive. Other days, same environment, same task… and she felt small.
Hesitant. Questioning herself.
It didn’t make sense on the surface, until we looked at where she was actually operating from.
Not physically.
Mentally.
Because in any given moment, you’re not just one version of yourself.
You’re usually operating from one of three.
Your past self.
Your future self.
Or your present self.
Her past self carried the voice that said she wasn’t enough. That she needed to prove something. That she didn’t fully belong.
Her future self was trying to become someone else entirely. More polished. More confident. More “ready.”
And in between those two…
She lost access to the only version that could actually execute.
Her present self.
That’s the one that already has the experience. The knowledge. The ability.
But when you’re pulled into your past, you hesitate.
When you’re pulled into your future, you overthink.
And in both cases… you don’t act.
That’s what was happening.
Not a lack of capability.
A misalignment of where she was operating from.
Once she saw that, things changed.
Not overnight.
But noticeably.
Because instead of trying to become someone else… she started acting from who she already was.
And that’s where consistency comes from.
